OUR LOCAL CHURCH

Founding Years (1939-1951)

The Seventh-day Adventist Church was founded in 1863, but the first Adventists in Rocky Mount, NC, are dated from 1939. Two Adventists came to this city to sell religious books, and they introduced Lettie Cockrell and her mother, Mrs. Susie Massengale, to the Seventh-day Adventist faith. Despite facing challenges, Lettie and her mother became the first members of this new church, starting a journey that would shape its early years.

Early Growth and Organization (1942-1951)

In 1942, a series of meetings led by Elder Hartwell gathered a small group of believers. By 1948, more people, including C. W. and Mrs. Catherine Williams, joined after being baptized. With growing interest, the church set up a meeting place on Maple Street, where many others also embraced the Seventh-day Adventist beliefs.

Expansion and Community Impact (1951-1997)

Formally established on March 17, 1951, the Rocky Mount Seventh-day Adventist Church began actively engaging with the community. The church organized efforts to raise funds and connect with others, starting with creating the first Pathfinder Club in 1973. Under Pastor Ted Huskins's leadership in 1992, plans emerged for a larger building and possibly a school. By 1997, the new church building on Halifax Road was completed, providing a space for more activities and community outreach.

Continued Growth and Outreach (1997-present)

Since moving to Halifax Road, the Rocky Mount Seventh-day Adventist Church has expanded its programs and services to reach more people. It hosts uplifting spiritual services and educational seminars and engages in community service, aiming to share its faith and support the Rocky Mount community and beyond.

OUR LOCAL PEOPLE

OUR LOCAL MEETINGS

Please find more details below and what to expect about our three main weekly meetings.

Small Groups - Wed, 7 pm

Our “Small Groups” are designed to bring us together mid-week to encourage one another through prayer and receive inspiration from the Bible to remain faithful to Jesus. They're an excellent opportunity to support each other, share our faith journeys, and deepen our understanding of God's Word. The meeting ends at 8 p.m.

Sabbath School - Sat, 9:30 am

Our “Sabbath School” meeting is available to adults and kids of all ages. It is divided into classes designed to explore the Bible together through interactive discussions. It's a fantastic opportunity to discuss and better understand Jesus's teachings and their relevance to our daily lives. The classes end at 10:45 AM and are followed by our Worship Meeting.

Worship Meeting - Sat, 11 am

Our “Worship Meeting” starts after a short break after our Sabbath School classes. It begins with announcements, singing, and a prayer to invite the Holy Spirit. After an opening hymn, there is a children's story, a collection of tithes and offerings, and a time for sharing prayer requests and congregational prayer. The sermon, typically 30 minutes, follows a special song, and the service concludes with a closing hymn around 12:30 PM.
